we go.  I can’t wait to share my favorite places with my Guy.  Which of course includes food!  My first stop to eat was simple, I went to TOPS.  This is, I am realizing, west coast style fast (GOOD) food.  I would love to attempt explaining their unbelievable menu.  Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and everything in between is offered 630A-11P Monday-Thursday and til Midnight on Friday and Saturday.  Let me give you an idea of what I mean by everything.  Breakfast you can have anything from a Breakfast Burrito to the best Burger you’ve ever had.  Lunch or Dinner have an itch for something?  Go to TOPS they’ll have it.  I am so not doing this menu justice.

I flew home for the celebration of my Father’s life, who most of you know recently passed.  I decided to go to Tops for a burger, which reminded me of when I used to go home.  On my many visits home over the years my Dad seemed to always call me at least once a visit to say ‘Hey, I’m stopping at Tops on the way home what do you want?  And would you please warm some plates in the oven and set the dining table, and when I get home I’ll go and get a bottle of wine from the cellar.’  Tops burgers on warm plates sitting at the Dining room table sipping a good red wine, AHHHHH!!!

Not your usual thought when it comes to Tops, but that was my Dad.

at the Farmer’s Market. Oh, how I have missed it. I haven’t been to my Farmer’s Market in 2 weeks.

Look at all this beautiful Produce…….Corn, Tomatoes, Garlic(the best ever), Potatoes, Asian Pears, Apples, Red Onions, Broccoli,  Green Beans, Italian Beans and Yellow Wax Beans, Peppers. Just so many choices and Yummy Fruit and Veggies. I just can’t wait to spend time in my room playing and creating. I have a meal or 2 already churning in my head. YUM 🙂

celebration of my Father’s life. I spent the other afternoon at my parent’s home celebrating my Father. The people, the atmosphere, the love, the food. This was the most beautiful experience. The community of people that got together to support my Mom was just unbelievable. People brought food and I mean FOOD. Grilled Shrimp and Avocado Salad, Sushi, Finger foods everything from puff pastries to sandwiches, Chicken Wings, Sun Chips and Hummus, Tortilla Chips and Salsa, Cookies, Cakes and OH MY so so much more. The Band was Spectacular. There was a Bag-Piper named Jennifer and I don’t even know how to explain how awesome she was. Just WOW.

As I continue to share this trip with you I know I will remember so much more regarding this experience. I really just wanted to share some of this with you and Yes, I will be writing alot more.

Sorry…..no I have not

disappeared. I have just run away for a few days. As you know I am originally a West Coast Girl and that is where my family is. My guy and I flew out to California on Thursday at 4AM. Yes you read it right.  I’m evil at times I wanted to be in California in the morning so we wouldn’t miss a day. My guy has never been to Southern California. So I want to pack in as much as I can for him and see family. I didn’t realize til we were flying out that I am bringing a guy home to meet my family…..OH NO 🙂

I can’t wait to share with you all the food I have and will be eating. I am having such a terrific time eating and sharing my food haunts.

We are off to see and eat our way through another day.

Fall is in the air and I sure hope it isn’t a tease. I went straight to comfort food this weekend. imag0673

Shepherd’s Pie

The first time I ever had Shepherd’s Pie American Style, I was in  my 20’s and a friend invited me to dinner. She was a young Mom of 2 toddlers married to a hard working nice guy. Money was tight and she really knew how to stretch a buck. Her version was a simple yummy casserole, so yummy I asked for seconds. I have expanded on that wonderful filling comfort over the years.

Ingredients

1 plus pound good quality ground meat of your choice. Traditionally this dish is made with ground Lamb.

1 large Tomato

1 large Sweet Pepper

1 large Onion

Coarse chop these ingredients.

Brown the ground meat. I rinse my ground meat in a Colander and then put it back into my skillet Add the coarsely chopped vegetables, stir well and simmer.
I added 1 can each

Green Beans

Corn

Tomato Soup

All were sodium free and organic.imag0670

Once you have simmered this Yummy concoction. Make Mashed Potatoes I make this dish Dairy-Free for my Family. But please feel free to make the potatoes the way you and your family likes them. I used 8 or so New Potatoes from of course the Farmer’s Market. I leave the skins on.to make this Dairy-free I use Mayonnaise and Greek Yogurt.imag0671

Once everything is prepared. Place the Meat mixture in the bottom of  Casserole, top with the Mashed potatoes. If you have the time I do recommend placing the casserole in the refrigerator for a half hour or so before baking, so that everything has a chance to talk.

Bake at 350 degrees til meat mixture is bubbling and the potatoes are getting brown.

As I have said in the past and will continue to say in the future. “Recipes are road maps. They are not the law.”

Use the vegetables you and your family likes. Top it with Grated cheese. Enjoy- play make it yours.
